Summer Learning Journey Day 2

Summer Learning Journey #2

What is your favourite television show at the moment? On your blog tell us about your favourite television show. What is it about? Who are the main characters? What channel is it on?
My favourite Tv show at the moment is Good Witch which stars Bailey Madison. It's about a woman (Catherine/ Cassie Bell) moves into a supposedly haunted house and changes the lives of the townspeople. The main characters are Grace/ Bailey Madison, Cassie/ Catherine Bell, Sam/James Denton and Nick/Rhys Matthew Bond.  I don't really know whether it's on tv but I watch it on Netflix or on Daily-motion.

Summer Learning Journey Week 3 Day 1

Summer Learning Journey Day #1

It was common for women in the 1950s to stay home with their children and raise their family. They were called ‘housewives.’ Many housewives followed a simple rule when they prepared the evening meal: the ‘meat and three veg’ rule. This meant that they prepared dinners that included three different vegetables and a type of meat (eg. beef, lamb, or chicken).

On your blog tell us if you think that the ‘meat and three veg’ rule is a good one. Do you like the rule? Would you enjoy eating a typical 1950s dinner? Why or why not?
I would enjoy eating a meal like this because it just doesn't sound very appealing to me. You would only have 3 vegetables and it would be enough to eat with your meat.  Plus three vegetables isn't enough to eat.

Activity 2 - Read through the lists. Are these popular names in your school? On your blog, tell us which names are currently popular in your school. Please provide, at least, three girls’ names and three boys’ names that are popular.

The school that I go to popular girl names are Angel, Mya/Maia/Maya that's all I think.. Popular boys name at my school is William, Moses and Joshua these are very popular boys name at my school.

Activity 3 -For this activity, imagine that you are living in New Zealand in the 1950s. Use Google Draw* to design the front of a postcard that you could send to a friend. Try to include elements of Kiwiana in your design (e.g. Pohutukawa trees, Hokey Pokey ice cream, etc). Post a copy of your postcard picture to your blog. Be sure to describe what you have drawn on your blog beneath the picture.

I have drawn a postcard on what things New Zealanders enjoy to eat and use. I put our money because we use that everyday. I also put the pohutukawa tree because it's native to New Zealand (which means that it's was in first found in New Zealand. ) I put the Hokey Pokey ice cream because that's our favourite ice cream. There as you can see I also put a flag of New Zealand that is shaped like New Zealand. Last but no least I put our Queen Elizabeth.

Summer Learning Journey Day 5

Summer Learning Journey Day 5

Activity 1 - Ve Day! On your blog, tell us all about your (imaginary) VE party. If it was me, I would invite all of my closest friends and family over to my house for a big barbecue. We would eat hamburgers and play basketball in the driveway. Some of us would probably walk to the local beach to play soccer on the beach and to go for a swim (if the weather was warm enough)!

If I was throwing a Ve day party, I would invite all the people that made it to come and celebrate with all my close friends and family. We would either go to the beach and play volleyball, soccer and swim. Or we would go to a local park and play sports such as tag, touch, Frisbee and Baseball. We would have a picnic and just celebrate and catch up with everyone.

Activity 2 - Compare the pictures of common clothing from the late 1940s to what you wear now (i.e. in 2017). Are they similar or are they quite different? On your blog tell us which of the two styles you prefer and why. The pictures below were taken over 65 years ago! What do you think people will be wearing 65 years from now?

I would prefer to wear either clothes because one they are both clothes and two they have very different styles but they are very nice. The style of clothes have changed over the years and have turned like a good way.  They would be wearing beautiful clothes with a lot of styles.

Activity 3 - I usually have a chocolate chip cookie with my tea. I love biscuits! What is your favourite sweet treat or dessert? Use google to find a recipe for it. Type the recipe out on your blog. Make sure you also include a picture.

My favourite sweet treat is either banoffee pie. I enjoy to eat this because it just melts in your mouth and the first time I tasted it I loved it as soon as it went in my mouth.

  • For the base:
  • 100g butter, melted
  • 225g light digestive biscuits, crushed
  • For the caramel:
  • 75g butter
  • 75g dark brown soft sugar
  • 397g can Carnation Condensed Milk
  • For the top:
  • 2 medium bananas
  • 150ml carton whipping cream, lightly whipped
  • Cocoa powder, to dust
You will also need...
20cm loose-bottomed cake tin, greased

1. Put the biscuit crumbs in your bowl, then tip in the melted butter and mix it all together. Spoon this into the base and press against the bottom and sides – this is the base of the banoffee pie recipe. Chill it for ten minutes.2. Place 75g butter and sugar into a non-stick saucepan over a low heat, stirring all the time until the sugar has dissolved. Add the condensed milk and bring to a rapid boil for about a minute, stirring all the time for a thick golden caramel. Spread the caramel over the base, cool and then chill for about 1 hour, until firm or until ready to serve.3. Carefully lift the pie from the tin and place on a serving plate. Slice the bananas; fold half of them into the softly whipped cream and spoon over the base. Decorate with the remaining bananas and finish with a grating of chocolate. To get the most out of our banoffee pie recipe, make sure that you really boil the filling for at least 1 minute to be sure it sets to a fantastically tasty squidgy caramel.

Actvitiy 3 - One day you are walking along the deck of the ship when you hear a loud bang. You start to run as you see smoke coming from the far end of the ship. You run towards the room where your patients are waiting to receive treatment from the doctor. Just as you arrive at the door to their room you hear another loud bang and you....
I look around at all the people that are going to die as a tear just drops from my eye. When bang, bang after another. I try to get everyone to try and calm down when a little girl runs towards me and says " Am I going to die. " " No, don't say that, you are going to live and see your kids and grand kids. " The little girl looked petrified as I say to her " Hey, it's okay to be afraid but you need to stay strong. " When bang, it tears a whole into the ship making us start to sink. " Hey everyone, listen up, if we all work together we can make it out of here alive. " I could see old people slowly dying and I felt guilty because I couldn't do anything.

I rate this painting a 4.5 because it looks very pretty and detailed but it's just it looks like if there were more places or things then I would rate it a 5/5.

Activity 3 - Imagine that you were a member of the flight crew. Write a poem that describes how you would have felt when you landed safely in Christchurch after such a long trip. Remember, there are lots of different types of poems, and they don’t all have to rhyme.

Going over the sea and water made me a bit sick
As I'm hoping we get back quick
We just saw Kentucky
I feel so lucky
To be on the ground
I had a frown
But now I am blessed
Instead of being stressed

Summer Learning Journey - Week 1 Day 1 - Activity 2/3

Activity 2 - On your blog tell us what you think about the fact that women were not allowed to vote in Saudi Arabia until 2015. Is it fair? Why or why not?

Opinion
I in my opinion I thought that it's not fair that us women were not allowed to vote because we are equally the same and for them to treat us women different is not fair.. Even though we are different to men we should be having the same opportunity like men.. I think that they should of changed that law many years ago.

Activity 3 - On your blog, tell us what you think of the poem. Do you like it? How does it make you feel?
This poem is very touchy and emotional to me because we have brave people who had fought for us. It is very emotional because they had to give their lives and family up for our country.. I am very proud of them..

Activity 1 - Use Google to research traditional Māori Waiata. Listen to a number of Waiata and read the lyrics. On your blog tell us which one of the waiata you found you like the most. Why do you like it?

The songs I liked
Poi E
He Honore
Ka Pioioi
Pai mai

Activity 2 -Choose one game, and on your blog, tell us the (i) name of the game, (ii) the goal or purpose of the game, and (iii) two rules.
Matimati - Taonga Tākaro
The goal or main purpose of this game is to Read opponents movements and learn to evade in disguise attacking movements. Two rules that I learned in this game was that you have to have your two feet remain grounded. Another rule that I learnt was that when the striker, strikes that they must have an open palm.

Activity 3 - On your blog, rank the performances from your favourite (#1) to least favourite (#3) and tell us why you gave them the ranking that you did.
Te puku o Te ika - 9/10 - I thought that this was my favorite out of all of them because was it was dedicated to someone and they sang from the heart for that person.
Tamatea Arikinui - 8/10 -  I put as second because it was very close to number 1 but I decided to put this as second because they had a lot of dancing more than the first video. The girls and the boys also took turns to sing.
Te iti kahurangi - 8/10 -  This was my put as third because I couldn't have two seconds and if I did then this would also be second. This song was just so touching to me and made he start to just tear up. This song is more second than it is third.
