Different types of sentences

Read each sentence carefully and decide whether it is a simple, compound or complex sentence. Explain the reason for your choose.

We have to go to bed when the clock chimes ten o’clock.
  • Complex because it has a independent clause and a dependent clause.

Jennifer likes William’s friend, and she also liked his cousin.

  • Simple because it has 1 independent clause.

Many brave soldiers fought in the war, and they received medals.
  • Compound because it 2 or more independent clause and a supporting conjunction.
The drummers played for a long time, but the piano players stopped.
  • Compound because it 2 or more independent clause and a supporting conjunction.

Before the queen rode in the parade, she gave a speech.
  • Complex because it has a independent clause and a dependent clause.

After midnight the ghosts will come out of the haunted attic.
