What is a tattoo? Tattoos are known as art on your body. To some people they think that tattoos are cool. But on the other hand it might be a part of their culture. In my culture Cook Island it isn’t a traditional thing to get a tattoo.

Tattoos were first discovered in the Cook Island in the 19 century. Cook Island tribes or clans usually have a different type of way by telling which tribe or clan they come from. They have designs like fish, bird, insect and plants that is sacred to them so they tattoo it on them.

If you are a chief you usually have an  centipede with a bite  tattooed on the chief’s back. The centipede usually tells the people that he or she is the chief of the tribe or clan. This is a way to tell who is the chief of the clan.

On some people tattoos are not really recognized because of the skin colour. If you are light coloured that it is more easier to see the tattoo. But if you are dark coloured than you may have a problem. The problem might be is that you can’t see the tattoo.

What do they use to make a tattoo? Well there are only a few things that they use to create a tattoo. A stencil. The stencil is a copy of a flash that is made on a copying machine. It can also be allow to outline the design and be transferred onto the skin so that it is easier for the artist to trace.  Ink - The ink is able in any colour.
