Summer Learning Journey Day 5

Summer Learning Journey Day 5

Activity 1 - In 1990, one of the largest national parks in New Zealand, Tongariro, was listed as a World Heritage Site. It is a truly spectacular place to visit! Thousands of people go to Tongariro every year and hike the Tongariro Crossing. Visit the Tongariro website to learn more about the one-day hike.

On your blog tell us what you would need to pack if you were going to hike the Tongariro Crossing. What should you bring with you? Write a list of at least 5 items.

Other than making sure that you have the right equipment, what else should you do before heading out on a big hike? Click here to learn how to stay safe while you’re hiking.
1. Water bottle full of water.
2. A sleeping bag
3. Clothes
4. Food
5. Hiking Shoes
I would take these equipment's because they are really important when out in nature. You would need a water bottle and food so that you don't have low blood sugar and to keep you hydrated. A sleeping bag just in case you decide to camp while you are hiking. Hiking shoes so that you don't get sore feet while hiking. Last but not least extra clothes so that in case you get wet or even if you get cold then you know that you have extra clothes.

Kia Ora Vedel,

Well done for completing this activity! You are highly organised and from the looks of it you will be well sorted for a hiking trip! Do you think you would need a tent on this walk? Or would you just sleep under the stars? Hoping there is no rain!

I went for a 6 hour hike over the Hunua ranges with a friend last year… we were well organised but I had no idea it would take us 6 HOURS to complete the whole track. Glad we packed enough food for us both!

Keep up the great work!

Best wishes,

Cadence :)
