Summer Learning Journey Day 5 Activity 3

Summer Learning Journey Day 5 Activity 3

Activity 3 - The new Labour government have promised to give up to three years of free post-secondary education to all New Zealanders by 2020!
On your blog, tell us what you think. Should students have to pay money (tuition fees) to go to university? Why or why not?

I think that we should not be paying in order to go to university because we are doing it for our education. Some of us can't even afford to go to university because it is to expensive for us. If we don't pay for tuition fees then we would be able to all learn and have an education. Therefore, I personally think that we should not be paying for tuition fees.

Hey Vedel,

You are so right about university being too expensive for a lot of people, not everybody is able to receive a scholarship and student loans make for a big debt later. Had you thought about why university fees are so high? It makes me wonder if taxes will shoot up when the fee free policy does come into effect..

As a former university student I can say I would’ve appreciated being free of student loans. I believe the money that the student’s go on to make in their jobs later will be paid back to the government through taxes. What do you think?

I look forward to hearing more of your thoughts.

Toe feiloa’i fo’i,

Cia.

Hey Cia
I absolutely agree with you because my sister said that she had to drop out because she couldn't afford it. She said it would have been nice if they helped because she is a parent and needs the money for her child.
